Full Degree Programmes in English
Admission to the English-taught programmes Civil Engineering for the academic year 2027/28 is a four-stage procedure: you submit an online application with the required documents, the Faculty screens them, you attend a short online interview, and the Dean issues the decision. There is no written entrance examination.

Two tuition rates apply to the bachelor's and master's programmes depending on the applicant's citizenship — see Tuition fees. Doctoral admission is governed by a separate Dean's Directive.
What you need to qualify
All four conditions are checked during document screening. An application that does not meet them is not invited to the interview.
Requirement 1 Completed previous education
Bachelor's programme: secondary education completed with a school-leaving examination (Matura or equivalent).
Master's programme: a completed bachelor's degree.Requirement 2 English at CEFR level B2 or above
Proven by one of the certificates in the accepted list. The certificate must not be older than three years on the date of application.
Requirement 3 Motivation letter in English
300–500 words. It is the first assessment of your language level, your academic interest in the field and the seriousness of your intent.
Requirement 4 Minimum grade point average 2.5 / 4.0
From your secondary school transcript (bachelor's applicants) or your bachelor's transcript (master's applicants). The Faculty determines the equivalence of other grading systems case by case.

Application
Apply online through the BUT e-application system between 1 September 2026 and 31 May 2027. The admission procedure starts when your application is delivered to the Faculty within that period.
Make sure the full name on your application is identical to the name in your passport.

Application fee
A fee is charged for each application:

The payment instructions, including the bank account and the payment reference, are displayed in your e-application once it has been submitted. The fee is considered paid on the day it is credited to the account and is non-refundable. An application without the fee paid in the prescribed form will be terminated.
Documents and verification
Upload the following to your e-application by 31 May 2027. Applicants upload the documents as scanned copies merged into a single PDF file.
Bachelor's programme
- a certified copy of your secondary school diploma, verified in accordance with Annex 2;
- an English language certificate from the accepted list (Annex 1);
- a certified copy of your transcript of records documenting your GPA, verified in accordance with Annex 2;
- a motivation letter in English (300–500 words).
Master's programme
- a certified copy of your bachelor's diploma and the diploma supplement, verified in accordance with Annex 2;
- an English language certificate from the accepted list (Annex 1);
- a certified copy of your bachelor's transcript of records documenting your GPA, verified in accordance with Annex 2;
- a motivation letter in English (300–500 words).
How to have documents verified. Documents issued abroad must be authorised by an official authority in the country where the education was obtained. Three options are available (Apostille, superlegalisation, or an authority listed for your country) — all of them are described in the annex Authorisation of signatures, seals and stamps (Annex 2). Documents must be in English or Czech.
Fee for the assessment of foreign education
The Faculty assesses your foreign education as part of the admission procedure. A separate fee is charged for each application:

The payment details for this fee only appear after the application fee has been paid — you will then find them, together with the payment instructions, in your e-application under the tab “Recognition of prior education”. If this fee is not paid, the Faculty will not carry out the assessment and you will have to prove your previous education in another way permitted by the Higher Education Act; otherwise the admission procedure will be terminated.
Applicants who completed their education in the Slovak Republic, Hungary, Poland or Germany, and applicants who completed secondary or master's studies in Slovenia, do not need this assessment — their certificates are automatically equivalent to Czech ones.
At enrolment you must hand in the certified copies of the documents you uploaded. The Faculty keeps them on file for the duration of your studies; they are not returned. If your application has deficiencies, the Faculty will invite you to remedy them within a set time limit.
Document screening
The Faculty verifies that your application is complete and that you meet all four requirements above. Applicants who pass the screening are invited to the online admission interview.
Depending on availability of our staff the screening takes couple of days.
Online admission interview
The interview takes approximately 15 minutes, is conducted in English via Microsoft Teams (or an equivalent platform), and is scored out of 20 points.

A written record of the admission procedure is kept by the Faculty.
Decision on admission
The decision is issued within 30 days of verifying that all conditions of the admission procedure have been met, including the interview. You may appeal within 30 days of being notified.
You need this document for your visa application. Together with the decision you will receive a link to the BUT halls of residence, where you can apply for accommodation — the accommodation contract is also required for the visa process.
Documents can be collected by a courier pick-up service arranged at the applicant's own expense.
Tuition fee and enrolment
- 50 % of the tuition fee is payable by the date of enrolment;
- the remaining 50 % is due within 30 days of enrolment.
Failure to pay the outstanding amount by the due date may lead to exclusion from studies under the applicable internal regulations.
Admitted applicants must appear in person for enrolment within the deadline set by the Faculty (Article 29 of the BUT Statute). Enrolment takes place at individually agreed times at the Faculty's Office of Student Affairs, and you need to bring the certified copies of your education documents.
The last possible enrolment date is the end of the second week of teaching. After this date enrolment is no longer possible.
Before you arrive
- Apply for accommodation at the BUT halls of residence — required for your visa application;
- Apply for your visa. Allow 2–4 months for the visa procedure and send verified documents as early as possible; the Faculty cannot intervene in the visa process;
- arrange health insurance for the whole period of your stay in the Czech Republic.
Welcome to Brno University of Technology
Once you have enrolled, you are a student of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, BUT. In your first days you will receive your student ID card and your BUT account, register for your courses and meet your study group at the introductory session for international students.
The Study and Information Centre, your programme coordinator and the student associations are there to help you settle in — with the halls of residence, the residence permit, the library, sports and everything else that comes with moving to a new city.

Tuition fees 2027/28
Both English-taught programmes are intended for self-financing students. Two rates apply:

Group A — citizens of EU Member States and of countries with an Association Agreement or a Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the EU: Turkey, Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia; and citizens of Canada, Norway, Switzerland and Iceland.
The fee covers tuition only. It does not include accommodation, meals, health insurance or study materials. If you are unable to obtain a visa before the programme starts, the tuition fee you have paid is refunded.

When making the payment it is obligatory to state your surname as identification and your application number as the variable symbol. All bank charges are borne by the payer.
Accepted English language certificates
The following certificates are accepted as proof of English at level B2 or above:

If you completed your studies entirely in Australia, Ireland, Canada, New Zealand, the United States or the United Kingdom, you do not need to submit a language certificate. If your country is not on this list, studies taught in English alone do not satisfy the language requirement.
Not accepted: any online-only, non-proctored certificate; certificates older than three years on the date of application.
