Computer Graphics

Academic Year 2026/27

BEA012 course is part of 1 study plan

BPC-GK Winter Semester 2nd year

1. Theory of graphic formats

Image digitization (sampling, quantization, aliasing).

Color theory (concept of color, CIE diagram, color models RGB, CMY-K, HSV, HLS, color dispersion).

Methods of saving an image to a file (physical and logical data formats, color modes, palette, general structure of a raster data file, organization of bitmap data – strips, tiles, hierarchical tiles, pyramid layers).

Data compression – lossless methods (quadrant tree, stream coding – RLE, dictionary methods – LZW, Huffman coding, predictive methods, wavelet transform).

Data compression – lossy methods (color reduction, vector quantization, discrete cosine transform, fractal compression).

Vector formats (principle of vector drawing, C4 technology - CAD, CAE, CAM, CIM, reverse engineering and connection to BIM technology),

Conversion of graphic formats (raster - raster, vector - vector, vector - raster - rasterization, raster - vector - vectorization).

2. Hardware for computer graphics

Image subsystem (principles of monitors, plasma display, LCD and OLED displays).

Printers - principles of printing (thermal, xerographic - laser, inkjet, sublimation).

Input devices for computer graphics:

Touch screens (Resistive, capacitive, light, surface acoustic wave screens).

Sensors (image sensors of originals, digital camera sensors).

3. Image processing methods

Image preprocessing (brightness scale transformation, histogram equalization, discrete convolution).

Digital image editing (resampling and resolution change)

Geometric transformations in the plane (nonlinear transformation, Warping, Morphing).

2D object clipping (line clipping – Cohen – Sutherland, Liang–Barsky algorithms, polygon clipping – Sutherland-Hodgman, Weiler – Atherton algorithms).

4. Fundamentals of spatial graphics

Geometric modeling (set model, constructive geometry of solids – CSG, boundary model, octant trees, templating).

Curves and surfaces (Ferguson, Bezier, Coons curves – approximation, interpolation, surfaces – analytical and surface representation).

3D object display (3D transformation, light sources, lighting model, shading, global imaging methods, visibility solutions).
