Study aims
PhD study within the framework of Civil Engineering study program consists of five study branches:
" Constructions and Traffic Structures
" Building Structures
" Physical and Building Materials Engineering
" Civil Engineering Management
" Water Management and Water Structures.
A brief description of the contents of the study branches follows.
PhD study of Constructions and Traffic Structures study branch is focused on a scientific training, methodology of research work and research development in the fields of structural theory, reliability and failure mechanism of structures. There are several study directions - structural mechanics, concrete and masonry structures, steel, timber and composite structures, geotechnics, railway structures, roads structures, experimental work and building testing.
Study branch Building Structures is due to its complex content divided into four topics: Building Structure, Architecture in Building Structure, Technology and building process control, Building Services.
The study branch "Physical and Building Materials Engineering" is focused to a complex scientific training, to methods of individual scientific work and to knowledge development in the field of Building Materials Theory. The fundamental disciplines of the branch are Physics of Materials, Physical Chemistry of Silicates, Theory of Composite Materials, Microstructure of Building Materials, Durability and Rehabilitation of Materials and Structures, further Methods of Measurement and Diagnostics, Modeling of Physical Processes and Building Physics Tasks.
PhD study of study branch Civil Engineering Management is focused on the scientific training, the methodology of the scientific work and on the development of knowledge in the area of the real investments, the project management, the space economics, the value analysis in construction, the quality management, the marketing management and the risk management.
PhD study of Water Management and Water Structures study branch is focused on complex scientific training, methodology of independent research work and development of knowledge in this area of water management theory. As technical applications there are mainly hydro-technical structures, hydro-amelioration structures, waterworks, waste water treatment, municipal drainage, water management systems, reconstruction of water supply piping network, restoration of water courses and reservoirs, waste in water management.
Scientific preparation is based on knowledge of theoretical disciplines of natural sciences base together with theoretical and scientific disciplines of particular study branch. Continuous active scientific and pedagogical activity is a good condition for eventual qualification of graduates as academic employees at Universities.
