Syllabus
1. Introduction into sociology. Importance of sociology. Subject and methodology of general and applied sociology.
2. Society, social groups, sociometry. The importance of sociology to society, man and architect.
3. Sociological terminology, schools, streams and paradigms - summary, importance and heritage.
4. History of sociology, basic theories of sociological thought. Inspiration for present.
5. The theory of consensus and the theory of conflict. The problem of orientation in the world, social control.
6. Traditional and modern society in sociological concepts. Conservativism, rationalism and liberalism.
7. Complementary approach to the interpretation of social phenomena in society. Social structure of society. Demographic development.
8. Sociology in architectural and urban design. Determinism of the environment. Neighbourhood phenomenon.
9. Uniformity and diversity. Social stratification and space. Sociology of family, importance of family. Family and housing.
10. Public and private spaces. Sociological evaluation of living level. Preferences and ideas of people on housing.
11. Towns and village as the social units - agreements and differences. Architectural determinism. Urbanization in development.
12. Sociological research in architecture. Future housing. Sociology of housing and aspect of environment. Life between buildings.
13. Participation of users in the architectural design process, development programmes. The social aspects of architecture.
