Syllabus

  • 1. Introduction to the subject (terminology, case studies).
  • 2. Types of geomaterials (soils, rocks, light materials, geosynthetics) and their properties.
  • 3. Mathematical modeling in geotechnics.
  • 4. Stiffness and strength of soils.
  • 5. Constitutive models – elasticity and perfect plasticity.
  • 6. Constitutive models – plasticity with hardening.
  • 7. Shallow foundations.
  • 8. Pile and combined fundations.
  • 9. Retaining structures.
  • 10. Underground structures.
  • 11. Monitoring in geotechnics.

Exercise

  • 1. Basic tasks in geotechnics and their solutions.
  • 2. Determination of properties geomaterials.
  • 3. Exercise in laboratory – oedometric test.
  • 4. Exercise in laboratory – triaxial test (CD).
  • 5. Exercise in laboratory – permeability test.
  • 6. Evaluation of laboratory tests.
  • 7. Shallow foundations.
  • 8. Pile and combined fundations.
  • 9. Retaining structures.
