Syllabus

  • 1. Physical properties of water, chemical equilibria in water, pH, characteristics of water composition.
  • 2. Gases, carbon in water, calcium-carbonate equilibrium.
  • 3. Aggressive carbon dioxide removal, iron, manganese, and their removal from water.
  • 4. Coagulation.
  • 5. Filtration, adsorption.
  • 6. Water disinfection.
  • 7. Water hardness and its removal, ion-exchngers.
  • 8. Life conditions of microorganisms, fundamentals of microbiological processes.
  • 9. Wastewater, scheme of municipal wastewater treatment plant.
  • 10. Activated sludge process, aeration.
  • 11. Removal of nitrogen and phosphorus from wastewater.
  • 12. Biofilm reactors, natural ways of wastewater treatment. Anaerobic processes, sewage sludge treatment.

Syllabus

  • 1. Introduction, safety of work in chemical laboratory, calculations.
  • 2. Strong acids and bases, neutralization.
  • 3. Week acids and bases, mechanical removal of aggressive carbon dioxide.
  • 4. Removal of aggressive carbon dioxide by limestone and dolomite, calcium-carbonate equilibrium.
  • 5. Removal of iron from water.
  • 6. Removal of manganese from water.
  • 7. Determination of organic compounds concentration in water.
  • 8. Coagulation with Fe(III) salt.
  • 9. Chemical removal of water hardness.
  • 10. Removal of water hardness with ion-exchangers.
  • 11. Oxygenation capacity, written test.
  • 12. Analysis of unknown water sample, credit.
