Syllabus
1. Physical properties of water, chemical equilibria in water, pH, characteristics of water composition.
2. Gases, carbon in water, calcium-carbonate equilibrium.
3. Aggressive carbon dioxide removal, iron, manganese, and their removal from water.
4. Coagulation.
5. Filtration, adsorption.
6. Water disinfection.
7. Water hardness and its removal, ion-exchngers.
8. Life conditions of microorganisms, fundamentals of microbiological processes.
9. Wastewater, scheme of municipal wastewater treatment plant.
10. Activated sludge process, aeration.
11. Removal of nitrogen and phosphorus from wastewater.
12. Biofilm reactors, natural ways of wastewater treatment. Anaerobic processes, sewage sludge treatment.
Exercise

Syllabus
1. Introduction, safety of work in chemical laboratory, calculations.
2. Strong acids and bases, neutralization.
3. Week acids and bases, mechanical removal of aggressive carbon dioxide.
4. Removal of aggressive carbon dioxide by limestone and dolomite, calcium-carbonate equilibrium.
5. Removal of iron from water.
6. Removal of manganese from water.
7. Determination of organic compounds concentration in water.
8. Coagulation with Fe(III) salt.
9. Chemical removal of water hardness.
10. Removal of water hardness with ion-exchangers.
11. Oxygenation capacity, written test.
12. Analysis of unknown water sample, credit.
