Syllabus

1. Introduction to open channel flow.

2. Basic theory of open channels flow.

3. I. Mathematical formulation of 1D flow problem.

4. II. Mathematical formulation of 1D flow problem.

5. Saint-Venant equations.

6. Mathematical formulation of the problem of transportation and dispersion.

7. Numerical solution.

8. The movement of sediment load.

9. The issue of determining the open channel roughness.

10. Practical problems the flow calculation.

11. Structures on streams (weirs, bridges, culverts).

12. Hydraulic solutions crossing bridges and culverts with watercourses.

13. The issue of ice phenomena on rivers

Exercise

13 weeks, 2 hours/week, compulsory

Syllabus

1. Introduction, solving example No. 1

2. Creating a basic task in the HEC-RAS, procedure for the definition geometry data and boundary conditions. Solving the example.

3. Start calculation, results presentation. Solution Example 1 by HEC-RAS.

4. Computation of the water levels in the reach of channel for various boundary conditions.

5. Practicing on examples.

6. Entering inefficient areas and levees.

7. Determination of capacity in the specified section of the flow.

8. Tributary, flow change location.

9. Structures on stream - bridges.

10. Structures on stream - culverts.

11. Structures on stream - bed drop, weirs.

12. Structures on stream - weirs.

13. Presentation of exercises, presentations of dealt works in the workplace. Granting of credit.
