Lecture

13 weeks, 2 hours/week, elective

Syllabus

1. Introduction to the subject (terminology, case studies). 2. Types of geomaterials (soils, rocks, light materials, geosynthetics - properties). 3. Typical correlations in geotechnical practice. 4. Stiffness of soils. 5. Strength of soils (theory of critical state). 6. Introduction to constitutive models - Linear elastic - perfectly plastic constitutive models. 7. Introduction to constitutive models - Elastoplastic constitutive models. 8. Pile fundations (groups, uplift). 9. Combined foundations (shallow and piles). 10. Retaining structures (earth pressures for special cases, atypical shapes). 11. Geotechnical monitoring.

Exercise

13 weeks, 2 hours/week, compulsory

Syllabus

1. Simple exmaples in software GEO5. 2. Determination of properties geomaterials due to correlation. 3. Exercise in laboratory - oedometric test. 4. Exercise in laboratory - triaxial test (CD). 5. Exercise in laboratory - permeability test. 6. Comparison each selected constitutive models. 7. Design of pile foundations according to different design theory. 8. Design of group piles. 9. Mathematical modelling behaviour combined foundations. 10. Mathematical modelling of retaining structures. 11. Credits.
