German for Beginners

VYN001 course is not part of any programme in the faculty

The course is intended for complete beginners and thus, no previous knowledge of German is required.

Grammar: German pronunciation, conjugations of the verbs "sein", "haben", "kommen", "sprechen" and other basic verbs, personal and possessive pronouns, word order in a sentence, negative forms, definite and indefinite article, plural forms, numbers, "wie gefällt dir..."

Vocabulary: introducing yourself, countries and languages, family, alphabet, food and drinks, my flat and furniture

Aims

Having completed the course, students will be able to understand simple German expressions and phrases and they will be able to communicate in elementary everyday situations.
Target level according to the CEFR: A1 lower.

  • 1. L1: German pronunciation, greetings, introductory phrases
  • 2. L2: verbs sein, kommen, heissen and sprechen, countries and languages
  • 3. L2: alphabet, phrase wie geht´s, family
  • 4. L2: personal pronouns, more verbs, numbers 0-20
  • 5. L2: filling in a form, negative forms
  • 6. L3: definite and indefinite article, food and drinks
  • 7. L3: plural forms, pronoun kein, food and drinks
  • 8. L3: numbers 20-100, buying food (dialogue)
  • 9. L3: prices and amounts, my favourite food, recipes
  • 10. L4: pronouns and articles, my flat/house, rooms
  • 11. L4: adjectives, furniture
  • 12. L4: numbers 100-1000 000, colours, adverts
