The Geographic information systems offers many tools for solving the problem of watershed and nature protection. Geographic information systems provide tools and operations capable of simulating the methods and approaches used to solving environmental issues. The concept of teaching is focused on spatial analysis, digital elevation models, application, GIS outputs and major GIS products, especially suitable in water management and by solving soil erosion and flood conservation in the river basin.

Aims

The goal education in GIS system is to provide basic information for students about the principles of data of digital technologies.
Student gains basic knowledge about GIS which offers many tools for solving the problem of watershed and nature protection.

Syllabus

  1. Introduction to GIS – Introduction to Geographic Information Systems, overview of GIS applications, basic operations in GIS, Web Map Service (WMS) connections.

  2. Coordinate Reference Systems – Coordinate reference systems (CRS) and georeferencing.

  3. Working with Sample Data – Working with sample spatial datasets, data preparation, map layout composition and design.

  4. Vector Editing in GIS – Spatial data editing in GIS, creation of new shapefile vector layers, application of core GIS geoprocessing tools.

  5. Raster Editing in GIS – Editing and creation of raster layers, raster tool operations, creation of map layouts.

  6. Digital Terrain Modeling – Creation of Digital Terrain Models (DTM) in GIS, basic topographic and hydrological modeling.

  7. Spatial Data Preparation for Hydrology – GIS data preparation for runoff and soil erosion conditions.

  8. Spatial Data Preparation for Hydrology – GIS data preparation for runoff and soil erosion conditions.
  9. Soil Loss Data Preparation – Preparation of spatial data for soil loss calculation.

  10. ATLAS DMT Software – Input data preparation in ATLAS DMT software, WMS layer connection.

  11. Vector Analysis in ATLAS DMT – Practical application of ATLAS DMT software, terrain model generation, working with vector layers, soil erosion analysis.

  12. Raster Analysis in ATLAS DMT – Working with raster layers in ATLAS DMT software, soil erosion assessment.

  13. Course Credit – Awarding of course credit (final assessment).
