The course focuses on the basic concepts in the field of (waste) water management.
Students will learn about environmentally efficient solutions for drinking water supply in buildings.
Students will be able to design reuse of rainwater and grey water in buildings and sewage purification.
Students will learn how to minimize water consumption in buildings and gain insights into island systems from the point of view of water management.

Syllabus

  1. Introduction, history, legislation (Water Act, Water Supply and Sewerage Act).
  2. Drinking water in buildings, internal installations – requirements, calculation.
  3. Wastewater in buildings – requirements, objects, calculation.
  4. Rainwater – requirements, objects, calculation.
  5. Greywater – requirements, objects, calculation.
  6. Technical solutions and overview of equipment for managing rainwater.
  7. Rainwater retention.
  8. Rainwater infiltration.
  9. Excursion.
  10. Methods of wastewater treatment, root and house wastewater treatment plants.
  11. Sustainable water management, island systems in buildings.
  12. Green infrastructure. Green and blue roofs, water squares.
  13. Examples of completed buildings.

Exercise

13 weeks, 1 hours/week, compulsory

Syllabus

  • 1. Assignment of a project "Re-use of waste water in a single-family house". Input data for the building site: legal documents, maps, hydrological and, hydrogeological data, data from the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute.
  • 2. Calculation of the amount of waste water and rainwater, calculation of the demand for gray water, determination of the amount of water for irrigation.
  • 3. Design of waste water treatment technology, design of accumulation tank, possibilities of water utilization.
  • 4. Machinery for water use.
  • 5. Drawing: A technological scheme for the use of rain and waste water.
